Beer-a-Thon

Beer-a-thon

Drink for a cause on 27 March 2021 at the Beer-A-Thon

In the current economic environment, loads of students with outstanding abilities are unable to get a higher education due to the financial burden associated with tertiary institutions. This is a crisis that was identified by the founding members of the MC Foundation. A group of golfing buddies decided to make a difference by establishing the MC Foundation to reach out to individuals in need of assistance purely for educational and sporting purposes.

This non-profit organization prides itself on the fact that 100 percent of the donated money will be used to fund the higher education of a student. The MC Foundation provides students with a subsidy of R 50 000 per annum, which the student will forfeit if all subjects are not passed on the first try.

It was through this organization that our very own Juandré van Niekerk from Secunda Hoërskool was identified by Lake Umuzi and assisted by MC Foundation to pay for his studies in BCom Actuarial Science.

Similar to the origin of the foundation a bunch of friends had a braai and Tiné Neü (18) came up. Tiné’s father is currently an engineer at Denel and due to the mismanagement of the company, most employees are working without compensation or salaries. For this reason, Mr. Neü cannot afford Tiné’s tuition now.

Tiné is a bright and energetic young woman that received 7 distinctions, and an average above 90% on her matric certificate. Not only did she excel in the academic field, but she represented Gauteng at the South African Cross-country championship. She competed in dance and ballet competitions and received A++ at the National Eisteddfod of South Africa. Tiné served on the Student Council for 4 years for her exceptional leadership skills. She is set to study BCom Forensic Accountancy at North West University in Potchefstroom.

On Saturday, 27 March 2021, during the monthly Boere Mall a Beer-a-thon fundraiser will take place at the Artisan Square, Lake Umuzi, Secunda.

For every beer bought from Lake Umuzi Brewing Company, they will donate R10 and Lake Umuzi Waterfront will donate R10. The goal is to sell 1000 hand-crafted beers.

On this day, the Mini Golf Open, hosted by Hoërskool Oosterland, will be taking place so you can take your shot at a round of Putt-putt and then cool off with an ice-cold beer at Lake Umuzi Brewing Company.

Join us in drinking for a cause.

Any idea if there will be a “beer garden” to enjoy the beer or will it only be to available to purchase and to consume at home?
