FISHING AT LAKE UMUZI IN SECUNDA

CATCH A BREAK

Recreational fishing has always been part of the South African Culture. At Lake Umuzi, we offer safe fishing and have two well-stocked dams.  Access to both dams is controlled and is fenced for your protection. The lower dam with its magnificent Sunset vistas is exclusive for the use of guests of Lake Umuzi Kamp Oase Caravan Resort and Umuzi Lodge Accommodation, which borders the dam. The Lake Umuzi lower dam is also known as the Specimen-dam and is located in the Secunda Bird Sanctuary.

Lake Umuzi Upper Dam, also known as Bleshoender Dam, Secunda, is available to fish for our Secunda fishing friends. Currently, entrance to the Lake Umuzi Upper Dam is complimentary, but a permit must be obtained from the office of Roos & Rosslee, Mondays to Fridays from 9h00 to 16h00. For overnight fishing, contact Lake Umuzi Kamp Oase to book your campsite.

Carp Fishing is best from Lake Umuzi South Bank and Carp from 5 to 10kg is often caught with Carp of up to 15kg known to have been caught. Carp must be handled and returned to give others the same pleasure in the future. Please see the detailed Carp Care rules below.

Bass Fishing is allowed all around Lake Umuzi, along all walkways. Since we introduced 1000 Florida strain Bass in 2009, we realised the need to balance the dam by removing Bass smaller than 300mm. Bass over 300mm are to be released to ensure even more fishing pleasure for others to follow.
