Lake Umuzi stepped up to the plate again for the 6th year to co-sponsor the event.Eastvaal Motors, Silkaatzkop Development, T.W Group, Union Motors Secunda and Talisman Hire Secunda all contributed to make the event happen again. The Bulletin will be the official media partner to the event.
This was quite a challenge to organize due to the expected wet conditions expected during the race meeting says organizer and Clerk of Course, William Louw. Due to the large areas of clay in the area, it poses quite a challenge to find suitable stages to use during the event especially when it promises to be wet.
Most of the action will take place on the Charl Cilliers gravel road. T.W Group will host the popular T.W Stene stage. Another newbie to this year’s event will be the Silkaatzkop Development stage. This will test the driving skills of all the teams as it comprises of Gravel and Tar. The Silkaatzkop stage will start around 11:55 am on Friday and Saturday.
Unfortunately due to the wet surfaces expected, no racing will take place on Tjorrie Kruger’s farm but the service park will still be located there, where crews will service their cars between stages. Spectating at the quarry on the T.W Stene stage is always a high light to the Lake Umuzi Rally. Plenty of water splashes around will make for some exciting viewing.
The event will start at 10 am from Eastvaal Motors with a ceremonial flag off, where the teams will make their way to T.W Stene for 2 consecutive stages. A new addition to the event will be the Dewald stage right across from the T.W Group entrance. Plenty of action to be seen here.
You can look forward to the fantastic R4 Toyota Etios of Guy Botterill and Simon-Vacy Lyle and the Hyundai I20 from the Rally Technic Racing team piloted by Chris Coertse and local Hero Greg Godrich. Theuns Joubert will showcase the fantastic S2000 Toyota Auris. In the R2N 1600 class A.C Potgieter in his VW Polo, will compete against Jono Van Wyk, the swazi cowboy in a Ford Fiesta, George Smalberger in a VW Polo and others.
For the lovers of older cars, you won’t be disappointed. Local classic car driver Natie Booysen and co-driver Johan Smith in their Ford Escort MK 1, Anton Raaths in his Mazda RX 2, Sarel Coetzer in a Datsun SSS. Johann Fourie and Rocco Huzak will both be seen in their respective Rally Classic favourite Toyota Celica’s. From old to new machines will be in action. The event is not to be missed!!
