Essential services accommodation in Secunda
The world has been hit by a storm that few predicted and here at Lake Umuzi we are taking it even more seriously, as our lives and livelihoods depend on it.
Lake Umuzi Waterfront, as Recreational Indoor Sport and Hospitality Hub of Southern Mpumalanga, has been severely affected by the Pandemic. Even as far back as ten days before the announcement of the National Lockdown, in conjunction with the different Business Owners, we made the decision to close all facilities. That is, the Action Sport Arena, Waterpark, Kids Play Centre and Pre-school, Adventure Golf and the Cue Sport Centre.
The restaurants were also severely affected by the initial regulations before the Lockdown, to the extent that the Lockdown itself came as a relief.
With income on the Waterfront of zero for April, near zero for May and until we reach Level 1, we have to do everything in our power to reduce the risk of transmission in the accommodation facilities provided at Lake Umuzi Central Reservations.
Each accommodation entity has its own identity and strengths during this Pandemic. The idea is to make use of all the strengths to mitigate and reduce all risks involved with COVID19..
All accommodation entities are individual Members of the Federated Accommodation Association of Southern Africa (FEDHASA) and they will be following the FEDHASA Hospitality Safety Measures – COVID19, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in relation to the following :
- Essential Worker Guests wellbeing from check-in to check-out
- Staff wellbeing, training and education in COVID Measures
- Cleaning, Hygiene and Sanitisation of Public areas and Guest Rooms
- Laundry and the handling thereof
In line with the recommendations of the CDC to combat COVID19 as respiratory disease, we will reduce human to human contact as much as possible at all Entities. This will be practiced, bearing in mind the different facilities each Entity offers. For all Companies who wish to accommodate their employees at any facility, arrangements can be made to suit their individual needs with regards to meals, housekeeping, etc..
As we will not be catering for the recreational market over weekends, rooms and units will be left vacant to allow as much time between stays as required. Rooms and units left vacant the longest will be used first. In situations where guests return weekly, the same unit or room will be allocated to them to reduce the risks even further.
In line with the safety measures, all non-essential decorative items such as throws, cushions, etc. will be removed.

All accommodation options will follow the Essential Services Guest Protocol as well as the Housekeeping, Laundry, Hygiene and Sanitisation Measures as set out in FEDHASA’s Covid-19 Hospitality Safety Measures.
Over the past 23 years, Lake Umuzi Waterfront has endeavoured to make Secunda a better place to live in, and to provide a variety of Accommodation and Hospitality Options to suit any budget and style.
Through this Pandemic, we will continue to look after the wellbeing of all our guests and will continuously assess the situation and adapt to meet this challenge.
