Misty Waters – Original Music for Original People

Misty Waters – Original Music for Original People

Misty Waters was born in 2017, initially as a blues-rock celebration. But as the festival has grown, so has its sound. Today, Misty Waters Music festival showcases a rich and diverse line-up that includes Indie, Folk, Alternative Afrikaans, Blues, Rock, and Metal. As the legendary band Tidal Waves once said during their visit: “Original Music for Original People.”  Lake Umuzi – Secunda is one hour drive from Carnival City in Brakpan and 150 km from Pretoria all along the N17 East.

If you’re a music lover looking to stretch the festival feeling a little longer, why not ride the wave from Splashy Fen straight into Misty Waters? Keep that musical euphoria flowing as you head from Underberg to Secunda – where all the action happens on one stage. No running between sets, no missing your favourite act – or your drink – just a full lineup from your favourite comfy spot.

Because really, how many stages can one person watch at any given time?

If you’re not on leave and still hustling Monday to Friday, no worries – Secunda is lthan 1 hour from Johannesburg and 2 hours from Pretoria. And with Monday being a public holiday, it’s the perfect weekend getaway that won’t leave you wrecked by Tuesday.

And just a reminder: Rock doesn’t mean you have to rough it.

The festival grounds are fully grassed – no dust, no thorns – just you, the music, and your barefoot freedom. It’s a clean, laid-back environment perfect for both hardcore rock fans and families with picnic blankets.

Safety First, Always

Since 2017, Misty Waters has proudly remained incident-free. We take safety seriously, with top-notch security ensuring peace of mind. Lost something? Chances are it’ll find its way back to you. It’s a boutique festival experience where the party animal can go wild, and young families can soak up the vibe stress-free.

Stay Your Way – Accommodation Options

Misty Waters also sets itself apart with its range of comfortable accommodation:

  • Merchant Hotel – Luxury accommodation with breakfast included. Perfect for couples or friends willing to share a room (and a bed).
  • Inn Green Eco-Friendly Hotel – Choose breakfast or not, double or twin beds. It’s all about your preference.
  • Umuzi Lodge – Fully equipped, self-catering chalets, with a braai area, for 4 or 6 people. Just pack your personal items and groceries – and feel right at home.
  • Kamp Oase at Lake Umuzi – Right next to the stage! Equipped with electricity, water points, and braai stands. One vehicle per site allowed – great for campers, caravans, and tents.
  • General Camping – Included in your ticket and right at the heart of the action. Pitch your tent within earshot of the stage. While open fires and vehicles aren’t allowed, you’ll have access to water points and two full ablution facilities with continuous hot water. No dumping in the bush necessary.

Speaking of which: Yes, we have baths – and yes, they’re hot. Black Heidi even said Misty Waters was the first festival where she got to take a proper bath. (Now that’s a headline!)

The music for Misty Waters is painstakingly curated by Dian and Lisa Rosslee all the way from Connecticut USA.

Every day’s lineup starts off slow and relaxed, with folk music and a bit of Alternative Afrikaans, and as the sun sets over the lake and the golden moment arrives, the music turns to Blues, followed by Rock. The pace picks up, increasing with every set, into the late night.

So, whether you’re here to mosh, chill, or anything in between – Misty Waters is more than a music festival. It’s a weekend escape, a musical journey, and a community of original people who simply love original music.

From 2017 Misty Waters had several bands lighting up our stage. Our first year was an exercise and a bit of diving into the deep side of the pool. From thereon it just went better and better. Have a look who we had on the Misty Stage since 2017. No particular order.
